SAINTS will make the one-day visit to Perpignan on Saturday in a determined mood to arrest the run of three losses.

Although the performance in defeat at Hull FC was an improvement on the shocking displays against Leigh and Wakefield Saints now need to start winning to stay in touch and rebuild confidence on and off the field.

They tackle a Catalans Dragons side that caught the Leeds backlash last week and who will also be keen to get back on the horse on home turf.

They will be without influential Greg Bird and wing Jodie Broughton, but will have ex-Saint Luke Walsh pulling the strings in the halves alongside Richie Myler.

Coach Keiron Cunningham said: “Losing Greg Bird is a bit of a bonus for us  - he gives them a lot of direction and really leads by example but they have good players throughout.

“They had a real good shot against Leeds in the first half - in the second Leeds were exceptionally hot.

"Catalans pose a different threat from last year - they are well organised and put you in bad spots.

“We will go there and have a real good shot at it.

“I can tell with the way the players trained last week and how physically they played against Hull that they are ready to kick on. We have to play tough."

As for Walsh, who departed Saints at the end of last season, Cunningham said: "He organises and kicks well. We know he will be ready for this game and have a bit of a point to prove.

"He has fitted in really well with Richie Myler around him and some good edge players."

It is likely Saints will opt for the same 19 from last week, dependent on how a couple of players pull through with any knocks from the Hull game.

But Alex Walmsley will play after submitting an early guilty plea following the charge of using the knees in the tackle which saw Hull FC controversially awarded an eight-point try.

Saints are third from bottom, just above Widnes and Warrington, and the pressure for results is mounting.

Cunningham said: "It's a a results based industry and if you don't win a couple of games you get put under a fair bit of pressure.

"I have won and lost enough games now in my career to understand what each of them means.

"It is a long season, we have got to get our rhythm and flair and you do that with hard work. If we do that, and then chuck Matty Smith and Jonny Lomax in going forward, we can only improve."

Saturday's game in Perpignan kicks off at 5pm.
