GIANT-killers Haydock will be vying to become the first amateur team outside the National Conference to make it into the Challenge Cup fourth round on Saturday.

They travel to London to face another surprise package in Wests Warriors, the London Men’s League champions.

After Thatto Heath’s 18-16 knockout at West Hull, and Pilkington’s home exit, the Yickers are the last remaining St Helens amateur team left in the cup.

The fourth round sees this weekend’s victors joined by all the Championship clubs including Hull KR, London Broncos and Bradford Bulls.

Haydock, coached by former Saints wing Chris Smith, have got to this stage by beating National Conference side Wath Brow Hornets 17-4 on the road in round one, before beating BARLA National Cup winners Thornhill Trojans 30-20 in round two.

Last time out a crowd of 500 roared them to victory.

There had been a strong lobby to get the BBC to televise this game, but they have opted to show Toronto’s clash with Siddal instead.

Wests are something of an unknown quantity but they beat Great Britain Police 40-22 in round one, before pulling off a shock 26-0 win at NCL Division 1’s Featherstone Lions.

But Haydock will not be overawed by the occasion.
