WE have been asking St Helens Star readers to vote for their best Saints team, position-by-position, over the Super League era.

So far readers have selected: Wellens, Albert, Lyon, Newlove, Sullivan; Martyn, Long; Graham, Cunningham, Perelini, Joynt and Soliola.

Now it is time to add the final player - the loose forward.

Paul Sculthorpe was an inspired signing by the club in 1997. He went on to win back-to-back Man of Steel Awards and was one of the dominant forces on the pitch until injury forced him to call it a day.

A ferocious competitor, Sculthorpe had skill and toughness in equal measure and as an added bonus he also had a great boot. A fixture in Saints' two World Club wins over Brisbane, Sculthorpe relished playing against the Australians.

Jason Hooper was signed as a stand off, but he played his best rugby at 13. The robust Australian was an absolute grafter in Saints' Grand Slam winning team of 2006, often doing all the unsung, nitty gritty work.

Another fearless competitor who made sure opposing kickers never had an easy night.

Jon Wilkin has been a versatile ball handler since signing from Hull KR as a teenager in 2002. A strong runner and with a good boot on him, Wilkin possesses the skills of an old fashioned loose forward.
