DANNY Green claimed a hat-trick of tries to help West Park record a second successive win in North One West.

A 36-7 success against Cumbrian outfit St Benedicts, like them promoted from step seven at the end of last season, was no less than they deserved after a dominant display.

They rise to 10th in the table as a reward.

An early penalty was converted by stand-off Lee Rosney, but good defensive work by both sides resulted in no further score until the half-hour mark when slack marking by the home team allowed a chip-and-chase to be gathered by the visitors’ centre Josh Rogerson.

He crossed unopposed for a try converted by Reece Lancaster.

West Park were not deterred, and during a purple patch in the final 10 minutes of the half ran in three scintillating tries.

Rosney converted two of them.

Green grabbed the first from second-rower Anthony Jones’ pass, then a trademark run from full-back John Pape sliced open the defence before he sent Green to the line.

The latter then turned provider for wing forward Matt Cozens to score out wide.

St Benedicts pressed after the interval, but found West Park’s defence in resilient mood - even during a spell with 14 men after a sin-bin offence.

At the other end, Rosney’s deft kick over the defence was expertly-gathered by Green and he completed his personal treble.

Rosney converted, securing a bonus point.

Park’s final try was the result of some positive passing, the ball eventually finding Martin Kimberley who timed perfectly his off-load to winger Olly Berry.

In turn he found supporting Tom Williams, on as a replacement, who touched down. Rosney again converted.

West Park visit Leigh this Saturday, kick off 3pm.
