HAYDOCK added the Premier Division Grand Final Trophy to the league leaders’ title in a memorable night at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes, rounding off a fantastic season.

The Yickers defeated Thatto Heath A 23-14 to conclude a finals day that also brought success for Eccleston Lions in the North West Men’s League Division Four Grand Final, while Bold Miners and Pilkington Recs were edged out in their showdowns.

In a performance to match any of previous Haydock teams, Sunday’s top-of-the-bill crowning glory was also a fitting tribute to the founder and chairman of the club for 37 years, Eric Smith, who died just a couple of months earlier.

The #TEAMERIC call has been used ever since in his honour and from the first whistle it was evident the Haydock players wanted the best performance in his memory.

In an almost perfect opening 20 minutes Haydock established an 18-0 lead that won them the game.

Tries from Alex James, man of the match Jordan Gibson and Danny Lee were all converted by Dean Dollin.

Thatto hit back with a try through Leon Tatlock but Dollin showed great strength to force his was over for 22-4 in the second half.

After sustained Thatto pressure a Ryan Heaton converted try reduced the arrears to 23-10 before cool headed Jordan Gibson added a drop goal.

Heath grabbed a consolation converted try through Aaron Greaves in the last few minutes.

Luke McMahon scored three tries to help Eccleston to an emphatic 34-12 win against Rochdale Cobras in the Division Four showdown.

Lions effectively had it wrapped up prior to the break, with tries from Si Reid, Dave Anders, McMahon and Danny Beckett, who converted three times, making it 22-0.

McMahon’s two second-half tries sandwiched a first score for Rochdale, who added a late consolation too.

The win caps a great year for Eccleston, who were also league leaders and runners up of the North West Men’s League Shield.

Bold fell 28-16 to Wigan St Judes A in the Division Three Grand Final after leading 16-4 at one stage in the first half.

Kieran Scott, Jack Birchall and Webster put Bold in the ascendancy but St Judes’ defence won them the game in the second half.

Pilks were pipped 20-16 by Halton Farnworth Hornets in a golden-point finish to the Division Two Grand Final, Joe Purcell grabbing the winning try.

Mark Aston put Pilks in front, Jonathan Key’s try goaled by Ben Gravener levelled matters at 10-10 and then Knapper gave them a lead extended to six points by a Ryan Stephens conversion.

Halton levelled matters again, missed a penalty and Pilks missed two drop-goal attempts before the tie went into extra time.
