SAINTS’ controversial defeat in last night’s Super League semi final provoked a storm on Twitter.

Many pointed to the two key decisions at both end of the field that ultimately decided the outcome.

Not all the people criticising the no try for Dominique Peyroux and the try for Tom Lineham were Saints fans – with pundits and former players of other clubs pitching in.

Others criticised Saints style of play in the second half as the real reason for defeat.

Here is a sample of some of the comments on Twitter.

The Saint‏@Knowsleyrude: Makes it worse watching game again and seeing the social media reaction to all the poor calls. We can't all be wrong! Gutted..... #COYS.

Lee G.‏@b1gpurp1e : Seen both the Lineham & Peyroux incidents now on TV, 8-10 point swing that ultimately cost us the game. Peyroux decision a disgrace.

Stuart Pyke ‏@stuartpykesport ;Warrington deserved their win but St Helens have every right to question the decision making of both the referee + video ref. Both very poor.

Angela Powers‏@angelampowers ; Measured & dignified response by Keiron Cunningham to Saints’ loss. Some tough calls last night.

Garreth Carvell ‏@carvs81 :What a stupid rule. If the ref has to go to video ref it should be left to them. On field call makes no sense. Gutted if you're a saints fan.

LambyMcLambface‏@chrislamb2015: I've never seen a more unified response towards @TheRFL and the referee to last night's game. Fans of all clubs agree that it was a farce.

Karl Rooney‏@karlrooney: What's upsetting is the ref going to video ref in play for some decisions but not others. Stick with the decision or always go to the video!

Elston'Ells'Hamblin‏@LondonSaint73 : Absolutely gutted about the way we lost, the officials had an influence on decisions which did not help us as we lost points.

Mike Appleton ‏@mascarandy : Just watched the three key incidents again. Gidley is short, Lineham knocks on and Peyroux scores. Blimey.

Ade Cunliffe ‏@AdeCunliffeSPF : Yip on all 3. Technology there to prove it, but the monkey behind the wheel had no idea. Sad way to not progress to a final.

RichdelaRiviere‏@RichdelaRiviere : Everyone could see that was a try. Yet everyone knew it would be disallowed because of the utterly flawed on-field decision nonsense.

Paul Devanney ‏@paul_devanney : @RFLReferees Surpassed even your own usual incompetent standards last night.

RedVee.Net‏@RedVeeDotNet :Good to hear KC has had a go about Thaler post game in pressed - too often clubs are cowardly & worry about rocking the boat.

PaulBretherton‏@PaulBretherton5: Deffo no try for @TomLineham and 100% a try for Peyroux at the end. Never mind the other bits and bobs that happened during the 80 minutes.

Craig‏@rainhilllad: It's honestly sickening tonight. If we lost fair and square then ok, but not like this.

Kyle Amor ‏@kylejamor87; Tough to swallow at the minute, but extremely proud of all our boys and to be part of this club!! Good luck to Warrington in the final...

John Stankevitch‏@johnstankevitch; I don't think ANY true #rugbyleague fan, even Warrington fans, can deny that the officials had a HUGE impact on that game outcome. #shocking.

Joshua Cook‏@JoshuaCookRadio; Oh dear. That's just embarrassing for #SuperLeague. A knock on was given and a legitimate try was denied. I'm lost for words. #SLWarStH.

Nicky Leach ‏@nicky025 : Can't look at twitter close to tears....tired and emotional. God knows how @Saints1890 players and staff feel.

Craig Finney ‏@mcfin1980 : When wigan fans say we was robbed we know we've been robbed.

Geoff Strettle ‏@SAINTSGUS : If we'd have played open Rugby we'd have won by 20 last night.Warrington were shot at half time.

JamesSaintLatic ‏@JamesSaintLatic hard to disagree. The coaching staff have been lucky we got some dodgy calls, it's taken the pressure off them.

Geoff Strettle ‏@SAINTSGUS : 2016 gone finished. Worst season ever but it's past. Move on.

Jordan Turner ‏@JordanTurner89 :Devastated doesn't come close, thank you for all your kind messages and support means the world to me. It's been an honour @Saints1890.

Andy Wilson ‏@andywiz : most sensible saints I know reckon not a great saints side, not a great season, had a good crack but not their night. Move on.

Si@ Soliol@ ‏@kidceezar : Gutted for the @Saints1890 boys.50/50 calls??? But thanks boys for turning things around and putting pride back in the redv #saintuntilidie.

Alex Walmsley ‏@engywalmsley: Just wasn't meant to be... thank you for your support throughout the year and never losing the faith, see you all next year #COYS.

Luke Thompson ‏@Luketommo1 :Devastated about the result tonight, Wanna wish all the lads who are leaving all the best! And thanks to fans for support all year!
