THATTO Heath Crusaders took the spoils on Saturday in a sometimes fiery North West Men's League Premier Division clash with Haydock when a last second try from Darren Woods effort clinched victory.

The visitors went into a first minute lead when a chip over the top caught the home side napping.

Heath rallied to take the lead when firstly Danny Davies scooped up a loose ball and sent Adam Walsh clear, the winger running 50 metres to score and, then when Ryan Heaton powered over following good work from Andrew Stott and Darren Woods.

The game appeared to turn in Haydock's favour when Johny Hughes saw red for a spear tackle and, when the away team drew level on 30 minutes. Darren Woods then finished in the corner following slick handling from the home side, to give them a 16-10 lead at the break.

Fine individual efforts from Liam Knowles and Adam Walsh appeared to give Heath an assailable lead, but Haydock scored three tries in a ten minute spell to give them a 32-28 lead with 10 minutes to play. Danny Davies them had a try ruled out, before with the last play of the game Darren Woods won the chase to Andrew Stott's chip over the top on the last tackle of the game, the ice cool Tom Rigby giving Heath victory with a fine touchline conversion.

Man of the Match for Heath went to Darren Woods, with other notable performances from Leon Tatlock and Danny Davies. Man of the Match for Haydock went to Conor Smith.
