SAINTS boss Keiron Cunningham described the win at Huddersfield a a “complete” performance with the victory crucially keeping up the pressure on fourth-placed Catalans.

He said: “Huddersfield had a lot of key people back and played some good rugby but my players were outstanding on their goal line.

"It was up there with our best, most complete performance of the year. It was a professional performance.

“From minute one we laid the gauntlet down and we worked hard for each other.

“We defended four or five sets in a row and then went up the other end and scored.

“We have a thing at the club called trademark and that is what the club is about.

“It was a real trademark performance – especially that period. Your good sides defend three or four sets and then leak a try, great sides defend them and then go up the other end and score.

“I am not saying we are a great side, but we are a great side in the making.”

He paid tribute to wingman Jack Owens who scored one try and should have had another with Cunningham, after viewing the replays a number of times, saying it was “100 per cent a try.”

“Jack Owens’ last two weeks have been outstanding.

"He has come under a bit fire in previous weeks but anyone who understands stats will see every single week that he offers the same amount of work for you, he is tireless at what he does.

“Earlier on this year it was unfortunate for Jack that he was in a losing side that highlighted his performances a little bit.

“We have goals of what we need every week – we need carries off our outside backs. He is consistently into double figures with carries and well into 100 metres. You can't ask more.”

Cunningham also paid tribute to the supporters, who made plenty of noise from the away end on Sunday.

“We have to attribute a lot of what we have done in past few weeks to the fans, even going back to Catalans.

“It was rocking on Sunday. That period where we were defending the line at that end of the field – every set we defended you could hear the fans lifting and lifting.

“It pays dividends. The fans probably don’t understand the massive impact they can have on the team,” he said.
