PILKINGTON Recs travelled to Yorkshire hoping to topple the league leaders Siddal for the second time in a month but a second half capitulation saw them lose 30-22.

Defeat leaves Recs four points off the play-off places and with only one win on their travels this year.

The early exchanges were fierce with both sides defending sternly in the greasy conditions.  Chances were few and far between in the opening quarter, however it was Recs that looked more likely to score with the best chance being a cross field kick to winger Jake Hodgson who was unable to gather the ball under pressure from the defence. The opening score came on 25 minutes as hooker Ryan Liptrot finally opened his account for the season, diving over from acting-half, scoring the four-pointer that had alluded him to that point. Greg Smith converted.

And five minutes later the visitors were over again when Mike Garrity and Greg Smith combined to put Ryan Hilliard in besides the posts. Smith converting.

Siddal managed to pull a try back before half-time and they started the second half strongly, scoring with the first set. Minutes later they were over again.

With Recs now making unforced errors and handing possession to the home side, they were starting to tire in defence and this was exposed as the scrum-half spotted a space in the middle, dummying his way over for a converted try.

Siddal’s winger then showed enough pace to beat the defence and open up a 14 point lead.

However, Andrew Nisbet scored for Recs directly from the kick-off after challenging for the ball and seeing it eventually end up over the line with the help of a few fly-kicks along the way.

Smith’s conversion reduced the deficit to eight.

Siddal effectively sealed the game with 10 minutes to play when they managed to score again from a scrum, this time a run-around play fooling the Pilks defence.

By the time John Rees had crashed over for a try there was not enough left on the clock catch the league leaders.

Hard working Jamie Smith was the Amdec Man of the Match.
