SAINTS boss Keiron Cunningham played a dead bat on questions related to the possibility of signing Salford skipper Tommy Lee.

It is no secret that Saints are looking for another number nine to spell 80-minute man James Roby.

Roby this week said in an interview with the Star that having someone to swap with could keep him fresher and maybe even prolong his career.

But Saints would have to be prudent with whoever they bring in, given that they would be on the bench for most of the game with Roby still playing the lion’s share of the minutes.

On the subject of the well-travelled 28-year-old former Hull, Wakefield, Huddersfield and London player Cunningham said: “We have got targets in mind but we have not got anybody over the line as of yet.

“There are a couple of bigger ones that I want to get finished if I can.

“There is always speculation about recruitment, we have been linked with a lot of players so we may as well be linked with Tommy Lee as well.”

In an interview inside this week’s St Helens Star Saints extra, Roby said: “I am not saying I need somebody – but at the same time I am not stupid. I can’t keep doing this to whatever age I play.

“If I do get someone to swap with me it may help my game and save me a few bumps and bruises which accumulate throughout the year.”
