THATTO Heath progressed through to Round Two of the BARLA National Cup on Saturday with a 40-12 victory over Widnes West Bank Bears at Crusader Park.

Heath took a 6-0 nil lead early on from a fine solo effort from scrum half Tommy Flanagan converted by Shaun Quinn.

Heath doubled their lead when Ben Roberts sent Dave Sutton through the visitors defence; Quinn was successful with the conversion once again to give Heath a 12-0 lead. Good hands from Flanagan, Roberts and Walsh found Niall Allen out wide who chipped back in field for Walsh to touchdown, Quinn converted for to give Heath an 18-0 lead with 25 minutes played.

Flanagan, Davies and Quinn then combined to send Jordan Wakefield in for a four-pointer, Quinn was successful with the conversion and Heath were 24 points to the good with 30 minutes played. West Bank scored right on half time to give themselves a chance, to give us a scoreline on 24-4 at sheds.

A 55th minute try from Niall Allen following a neat flick pass from Adam Walsh effectively ended any hopes of a Bears comeback.

Heath added further tries through Shaun Quinn and Dave Sutton before West Bank scored two late consolation tries.

Man of the match went to Shaun Quinn.

The Crusaders have been drawn at home in the next round of the Xamax BARLA National Cup against Batley Boys which is scheduled to be played on Saturday 6 February. 1.30pm KO.

On Saturday Thatto open their Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Campaign with a home tie against Hunslet Old Boys KO 1.30pm.

On Sunday the Under 18s take on Portico in a local derby in the National Cup and the under 14s take on another local side Blackbrook. KO for the first game at 11.30am.
