BEN Thaler has been appointed referee for the decisive third game between England and New Zealand in Wigan on Saturday, with Australian Gerard Sutton appointed as the video referee for the sold out climax to the series.
A three man appointments panel consisting of Steve Ganson, Chairman of the Match Officials Appointment Panel; Luke Watts, the New Zealand National Referee Development Officer; and Thierry Alibert, Head of Match Officials, France; made the decision after reviewing the performances of both Thaler and Sutton in the opening two games of the Test Series.
They determined that both had done an outstanding job and that Thaler would be the man in the middle for the decisive game whilst Sutton would be the video referee.
