SAINTS have confirmed the signing of exciting French half back Theo Fages from Salford Red Devils on a four-year deal.

The club has agreed an unspecified transfer fee with the Red Devils in line with the rugby league compensation rules set out for home-grown players.

The 21-year-old international is a major signing for Saints, with his versatilty allowing him to play key positions in the halves and hooker being key.

Although predominately a scrum half Fages can provide cover for Luke Walsh in that role, as well as for stand of and relieve James Roby from his 80 minute a match routine.

Walsh has a further year to run on his contract, and should the Australian, currently playing his best rugby in the red vee, return home at the end of that, Fages would be a ready long-term replacement.

He joins the reigning champions from 2016.

Coach Keiron Cunningham said: “Theo is a super player and I am really pleased to add him to our squad for 2016. He's talented, can play in a number of positions but is also young and keen to learn.

"He will fit into our systems perfectly and we're delighted to secure his services going forward."

Fages joined Salford at 16 and progressed through their Academy system to make his debut against Wigan in 2013.

He has since gone on to make more than 60 appearances for the Red Devils, chalking up more than 20 tries.

A French international too, he played in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and also the European Cup the following year.
