THIS weekend will see Saints bid farewell to one of its greatest sons after fullback Paul Wellens announced his decision to call time on his glittering career and Ladbrokes will be on hand to honour the 35-year-old one with more trophy.

The Challenge Cup sponsor has named Wellens as the recipient of its monthly #MasterAtWork award for June and will hand the trophy over to the former England and Great Britain man pitch-side on Sunday.

Saints play host to Widnes in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup and while those packing into Langtree Park expect the hosts to deliver on odds of 1/6 the majority of fans will be there simply to honour Wellens.

Ceiron Jones from Ladbrokes said: "Usually we award the #MasterAtWork trophy for an inspiring performance or unique achievement, but in this case we've bent the rules slightly.

“Paul is a rugby league legend and we wanted to show our appreciation".

Wellens may struggle to find room in his trophy cabinet for the #MasterAtWork gong but he was still thrilled to be singled out, telling Ladbrokes News: “Thanks to Ladbrokes for the award of #MasterAtWork.

“I have had a long career with St Helens and it’s nice to be recognised again with another trophy!”

Past winners of the award include Rangi Chase, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and racehorse trainer Warren Greatrex
