SAINTS boss Keiron Cunningham has had to move to find yet another full back after the season-ending snapped Achilles sustained by Shannon McDonnell.

With first choice Jonny Lomax out for the season with a serious knee injury, Lance Hohaia and now Paul Wellens retired, and Tommy Makinson ruled out until September, Saints have now lost five full backs.

It is not a position Saints can muddle through with until the end of the season and the club will look to use what space they have under the cap to fill the void.

Cunningham said: “We will have a look and you never know in the next couple of days we might have something done, ticked and sorted and we might be announcing something.

“I am not going to rest and always have the backing of the board, the chairman and CEO.

“Mike Rush is brilliant, we are close and work well together.

“As soon as the injury happens we are almost used to it like clockwork, back on the phone, back in Australia and the process is rolling again.

“I’d like to think we can bring something in and we have got a bit of a resource to do that.

“Not much, so it is not going to be Greg Inglis, but it will be somebody who is very good at what he does and for the finances he will do a great job.”

He said McDonnell has had it repaired and the club will see him next season.

“Shannon has been fantastic since he came here and justified the decision to go and get him. He did what he did and was in great form.

“It’s unfortunate for the kid but he has a lot of friends in this place and will be back.

“Science has got so good that players come back from these type of injuries pretty quickly. It’s just a matter of time now,” he said.
