SAINTS' winning run came to a dramatic halt with a last second drop goal at the Jungle.

Ben Roberts' one pointer sunk off-colour Saints, who ended the game with 12 men following Mark Percival's sin-binning.

Bad night as Saints sunk with last kick of the gameIt was a bad night for Saints who saw Adam Swift carried off on a stretcher with a head knock and then they had full back Shannon McDonnell carried off with a leg injury.

Overall it was very much a case of after The Lord Mayor's show, with Saints lacking the same intensity and application to the game as in recent weeks.

Sloppy handling and poor game management meant they were unable to really build any pressure in the second half.

That in turn allowed Cas to crank up the pressure constantly throughout the second period.

And eventually that told.

Cas, buoyed by last week's win over Leeds, opened the scoring on six minutes when combative wing Justin Carney rumbled over on the left wing, taking three Saints men over with him.

Saints were swift to respond with Travis Burns and Luke Walsh resuming their telepathic understanding, with the stand off kicking perfectly towards the line for the fit again number seven to touch down.

Mark Percival tagged on the extras, and then improved Saints' second score five minutes later when Walsh popped up a fine short ball for Alex Walmsley to run on to and drop over the line.

In something of a frenetic, end to end but scrappy match, Saints forced a pass on the Tigers line then could do little to stop Cas wing Denny Solomona from racing the full length.

Luke Gale cut the lead to two points, but Saints were soon back on the attack after Carney lost the restart kick.

They exploited a good attacking position, with James Roby and Walsh combining to send fit again Joe Greenwood over for another comeback try.

Percival's goal made it 18-10 at the break.

Cas were first to respond after the break when they kept play alive, allowing Ben Roberts to kick for Jake Webster to touch down.

Gale goaled to cut the deficit to two points.

The home side then took the lead with a fluke ricochet from Gale's kick, with Matt Cook touching it down.

Saints' response was swift with McDonnell racing on to Jordan Turner's kick, with Percival making it 24-22.

Saints tried to hang on, but lost Swift. Then when Percival flopped on Solomona following a super McDonnell tackle, Tigers' tails were up.

Gale slotted a levelling penalty and then both sides missed drop goals.

With a minute to go Roby knocked on at an attacking scrum, blowing Saints' chances to snatch the spoils.

Instead Cas marched upfield and despite holding out with 12 men, Roberts poked it over from an acute angle as the hooter wailed to cap a bad night at the office all things considered.
