SAINTS supporters heading to the Super League fixture against Widnes tonight will be able to visit the newly opened Steve Prescott Garden of Remembrance, a place where fans can pay respects to their loved ones.

The garden was unveiled by Steve's widow Linzi during a short ceremony this afternoon led by the club's chaplain Paul Johnson.

Among the crowds were Saints chairman Eamonn McManus, former captains Paul Sculthorpe and Paul Wellens, club legend Kel Coslett and St Helens boxer Martin Murray.

The remembrance garden is situated behind the East Stand at Langtree Park and will become a place where supporters can reflect on loved ones who they miss deeply.

Speaking today, Mr McManus, said: "It is right and proper that the club has a Garden of Remembrance for the benefit of all fans.

"It is a place for thought and reflection for all supporters for their loved ones.

"It is our privilege to name the garden after Steve Prescott who, more than any, symbolises the spirit of the Club and of the town.

"We chose carefully from the bible (Timothy 4:6-8) the wording on the garden: ‘I have fought the fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith'.

"They reflect perfectly the life of Steve and the spirit of the club and of its supporters past and present."

Saints say supporters can visit the garden to lay floral tributes at any time but requests need to be made to present ashes at the site.

Martin Blondel, general manager of the Steve Prescott Foundation, said it is a "tremendous honour" for the great man's family, charity and supporters.

He said: "It is a place for fans to pay their respects and remember all our Saints.

"We would like to thank all who played a part in making this happen."

The garden was built by Urban Jungle in conjunction with the Original Saints Supporters Club and Saints.

A Saints spokesman said: "We kindly ask fans not to spread ashes at the site without contacting Phil in the first instance as we want to keep a proper and fitting record.

"Phil can be contacted on 01744 455 050, 07841 371 342 or via PhilWhite@saintsrlfc.com"
