PILKINGTON Recs averted a third consecutive defeat following a 22-22 draw at York Acorn in National Conference Division One on Saturday.

They were looking to avoid losing three games on the bounce for the first time in more than 10 years, and their early pressure was rewarded when Ian Stanley powered over from a sublime Greg Smith pass.

Lynch missed a difficult conversion.

The home side responded immediately when a break down the left ended with a winger hitting the corner.

The contest became a midfield battle, but Recs scored next on the half-hour mark when Jamie Smith created space before off-loading to John Rees.

He broke clear and handed over to Stanley, who sent Andrew Knapper between the posts. Lynch converted.

York then scored twice in three minutes, the first coming after Recs’ cover defence failed to pick up an inside runner, allowing the hooker to side-step his way in.

Next, a York winger latched on to a perfectly-weighted kick to the corner to score on the last tackle of a set of six. Both score were converted.

Recs moved within two points of the hosts added more points when Knapper’s try was converted by Lynch after Ryan Liptrot had reacted first to touch down a loose ball.

But with seconds left on the clock, Acorn created an overlap to level.
