Saints came from 14-6 down at Widnes at half rime, to eventually triumph 30-20.
The win, combined with Leeds' defeat at Warrington, sent the reigning champions back to the top of the Super League.
Atelea Vea was Saints' man of the match, with eye-catching displays coming from two-try Lance Hohaia and Travis Burns.
Saints' other tries were scored by Atelea Vea, Luke Thompson and Jordan Turner.
As ever, photographer Bernard Platt was there to capture the action.
1. Former club skipper Paul Wellens returned to full back in the absence of the injured Jonny Lomax - and once again was as reliable as ever, marshalling the defence well and showing some nice touches in attack.
2. Lance Hohaia stepped into the boots of James Roby at hooker - and came away with a fine display. Here he grabbed the opening try.
3. Big Mose Masoe continued his fine run of form with another barnstorming display in the middle.
4. Wing Tommy Makinson had to leave the field in a groggy state after two brave try saving passages of play. The first saw him get across to foil a runaway Joe Mellor with a tackle. The second saw him take a knock when retrieving a dangerous kick on the floor.
5. Skipper Jon Wilkin peppered the Vikings line with high balls - often productively.....
6. ..this bomb was won in the air by the chasing Paul Wellens, who was then unlucky not to find a Saints man in support with his pass from the floor.
7. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook helps wash the blood from Alex Walmsley's head.
8. Luke Thompson kept his legs pumping to bash his way through for the try which put Saints 18-14 ahead on 54 minutes. This was the first time they had led in the game.
9. Man of the match Atelea Vea stormed upfield to rattle the Vikings. The big Tongan did plenty of hard graft with and without the ball - and he was rewarded with Saints first score of the second half from a Wilkin punt wide.
10. Try time for centre Jordan Turner after Vea had made the initial break.
A further score from Hohaia put the result beyond doubt.
