RECS continued their winning start to the season, with a hard fought victory over Wigan St Judes.

The early exchanges were fierce and with Recs on the wrong end of a high penalty count, their defensive qualities were thoroughly put to the test.

With little attacking opportunities for the visitors, coach, Kurt Haggerty will be pleased with his sides desire to hold their line intact during a 20 minute spell of goal-line pressure from the home side. Recs did have odd forays in to the opposition half, but were left counting the cost of poor skills and questionable penalties keeping the game scoreless.

Despite the territorial dominance from the home side, Recs scored the only points of the first half when centre Danny Halsall charged onto a Greg Smith pass to power over his opposite number and score out wide with seconds to spare before oranges.

The defence orientated game continued in the second half, but with Recs showing more composure with ball in hand, they started to apply pressure in the St Judes half.

They looked to be over the line courtesy of Mark Briody, however he was contentiously judged to have been held up over the line.

The resulting restart saw smart play on the short side, with Andrew Knapper providing the final pass for wingman Kelvin Duffy finishing in the corner.

Briody was finally on the score sheet some 15 minutes later for a much deserved try after he crashed over from close range, with Lynch tagging on the extras.

The final say of the afternoon went to Halsall who scored his second of the afternoon, racing over after a long pass from Smith found him in space.

St Judes didn’t lie down, however and continued to push for a score, only to be prevented by magnificent defence from the visitors.
