SUSPENSIONS and injury means that league-leading Saints will have to tweak their team a bit for Friday night’s tricky trip to Wakefield.

With on-song prop Kyle Amor banned for two matches and stand off Travis Burns picking up a one-game ban for incidents arising from the Castleford clash, boss Keiron Cunningham will have to make a couple of significant changes from the line up that has won all of its league games to date.

He suggested he has the option of partnering Paul Wellens, Jordan Turner or Lance Hohaia with Jon Wilkin in the halves for the trip to Belle Vue after indicating that star scrum half Luke Walsh is still not fit to play.

However, Cunningham also indicated that Hohaia may be called up to spell his tireless 80-minute hooker James Roby, who has enjoyed a tremendous start to the season.

Cunningham said: “There is going to be a point where I have to start spelling Robes a little bit because he is just immense - with a monumental effort from him every week.

“He is my biggest asset and if I don’t do something about his minutes I could lose him for a long period. I am going to try and police it a little bit better now that we have got the World Club game out of the way.”

Wakefield are Super League’s perennial battlers and they have surprised Saints a few times on their own Belle Vue patch.

Although Trinity won their opening two encounters, they surprisingly took a bit of a hiding at Widnes at the weekend.

Cunningham said: “I was a bit baffled by Sunday’s result. They are doing a job in attack and defence, but they didn’t turn up on the day.

“Put it this way, I won’t be using that video to show my players.

“You know what to expect against them – they throw the ball about all over the field – their half, your half, anywhere.

“It is going to be a big challenge for us – and Wakefield always end up making it a bit of an arm wrestle for us there, so it will be interesting to see how we respond.

“Half back Tim Smith has played on the front foot at the start of the year because his pack has been dominating.

“He got squashed at Widnes, because his pack was beaten.

“If we can do a number on their middle then it takes Tim Smith out of the game a little. We will be going there prepared.”
