AFTER falling behind twice in what was a feisty first half Brook battled back to snatch a vital two points in their promotion bid, defeating Coventry Bears 28-20.

Championship One-bound Coventry snatched an early lead with a converted try.

Midway through the half Brook levelled the scores when Danny Fairhurst found Jon Glover bursting on to his pass and crashed over the try line with Stephen Parkinson converting.

Coventry replied, but Brook had the last word when Danny Fairhurst stepped passed two defenders to score a superb solo try Parkinson converted to give his side an interval lead.

Brook’s pack led by Sean Richardson and Joe Bate were beginning to take control of the game allowing the home side the weight of possession in the opening stage of the second half and their took the advantage with two tries in the opening 12 minutes of the half.

In the second minute Brook’s forwards drove the ball down field following a penalty and with the Coventry defence at sea Danny Parkes switched the direction of play to send Jack Parker over for a well taken try in the corner.

Danny Fairhurst added his second try of the match when he spotted a gap in the defence to stretch over from close range with Parkinson converting.

Brook appeared to put the game to bed midway through the half. Sean Richardson ripped the ball away from a Coventry player in a one-on-one tackle and he sent Jack Parker racing away. Danny Beckett went over in the corner. Stephen Parkinson added a touchline conversion extending his sides lead to 28-10.

Bears added two late tries.

Brook now need to win at lowly Eastmoor Dragons this Saturday to gain promotion.

Danny Fairhurst was selected as The Tisdalls Man of the Match and also the NL Commercials Players Man of the Match with Sean Richardson and Jack Parker in contention.
