Thatto Heath Crusaders got back into play-off contention with a hard fought 14-12 victory over high flying Siddal on Saturday at Crusader Park.

Siddal took the lead in the 12th minute; a grubber kick in behind the Heath defence was pounced upon by the visitors, who claimed the first score to the left of the posts, the conversion giving them a 6-0 lead.

Heath responded on 18 minutes, when Leicester kicked through the line and hacked on again for Quinn to pounce on the loose ball to score, his conversion levelling the scores at 6-6.

A dummy from Frodsham was bought by the Siddal defence on 26 minutes, his score and another Quinn conversion giving them a 12-6 lead at the break.

A Quinn penalty on 60 minutes stretched Heath’s lead to 8 points (14-6). Heath held out until the last minute of the game, when they were finally broken down, but it was too little too late and victory moved Heath back into 4th place in the NCL Premier division. Man of the match for Heath went to Mick Ledger.
