CHRISTOPHER Lamb broke new territory for St Helens Sutton by competing in the newly-established Octathlon held over two days at Bedford.

He recorded 3685 points finishing fourth nationally but taking the gold medal as the Northern Champion.

Lamb's marks were 12.3secs (100m.), 59.9secs (400m.), 3 min.18.72 secs3 (1000m.), 12.70secs (80m. hurdles), 1.59m. (high jump), 2.50m. (pole vault), 23.86m. (discus) and 44.44m. (javelin).

The club sends its congratulations to the new Northern Champion and club record holder.

Seven of St Helens Sutton A.C.’s younger members competed in the Northern Athletics Under 17yrs and 15yrs Championships at Robin Park, Wigan.

Most were in the U15yrs category with only Jacob Beesley in the U17s Men where he threw the discus 28.05m.

Most successful for the club was Daniel Lamb who won the silver medal in the long jump with his clearance of 5.33m.

Unfortunately he was less successful in the 100m where he was unable to repeat in the final his heat time of 11.87secs which would have won him third place.

Jorden Pilkington cleared 1.30m in the Girls high jump, Alexandra Bottomley threw 23.09m in the javelin and Lauren Fairclough threw the hammer 28.23m. Lauren Marshall tackled two events, the 100m running 13.83secs and the long jump, clearing 4.61m.

Only one of the group made the medals but all must have gained from their experience of championship competition.
