THATTO Heath crashed out of the National Conference League Challenge Cup in the quarter-finals on Saturday with a 4-26 defeat to last year’s NCL champions West Hull.

With defence on top in the opening quarter, the deadlock was eventually broken by West Hull with a try that would take them in at half-time four points up.

Ste Woods was sent to the sin-bin for dissent shortly before the break and it seemed to have an effect on the game as West Hull posted a converted try on 45 minutes.

Hull extended their lead on 60 minutes, before Matty Holding breathed life into Heath with 20 minutes to go, but two late tries for West Hull sealed the game and saw Heath crash out.

BOLD Miners maintained their position at the top of the league with a hard-fought 26-12 victory over Wigan Spring View in North West Men’s League Division One on Saturday.

The visitors scored first with a kick on the last to collect and go between the sticks before prop Liam Crehen hit back with a barging run.

Adam Sealants’ conversion levelled the scores.

Bold started to get on top, with Martin Marsh and Jack Birchall making great yards, and quick hands from Gaza Molyneux and Matty Norton combined to send Niall Allen over in the corner, converted by Nathan Goodwin.

Bold were 12-6 up at the break but were pegged back following the restart by a converted try out wide.

Allen grabbed his second to put Bold back in front before Norton’s two late tries sealed the victory.
