ST HELENS middleweight Martin Murray can see the doors opening after his demolition of Ukraine’s number one Max Bursak in Monte Carlo.

He is expecting to step up in his next date in Monaco against a world ranked opponent in October before then securing a third World title tilt in February.

And so taken has Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman with Murray’s Barmy Army that he wants to give them a massive home bout.

Murray said: “I have two more fights in Monte Carlo with the venues getting bigger. But then Rodney, who is on the same page as us, says secure a World title fight and then he said I owe it to the Barmy Army to win that title and take the defence to Saints’ Langtree Park.”

He has two massive hoops to jump through first before he can think about that, but it adds an even bigger incentive to the man from Fingerpost.

After demolishing his last opponent Murray is primed to step it up again in October, with the WBC route his most likely although there is talk of fighting IBF champion Sam Soliman.

Murray said: “My options are opening up. It is all about doing the right fights at the right time and stepping up as you go.

“Bursak was a good step up fight, but now we step up the opponent again from European level to world class level. That is the way it goes and then the ultimate is then fighting for the world title.

“I could fight interim champion Marco Antonio Rubio for a final eliminator or if Miguel Cotto vacates his title, which he may do, it could be me and Rubio fighting for that vacant WBC belt. We are next in line for a shot.”

It is a much more content Murray these days, with a clear programme in front of him and some realistic objectives.

“I can’t be happier with the way things are going. There are a lot of ups and downs in boxing, but for the minute I am happy with the team around me,” he said.
