ST Helens Sutton A.C.’s senior athletes had another good day at the second match in the Northern Senior League at Ashton under Lyne, even though the weather was less than kind.

On an extremely wet day the club managed to claim second place with another great team effort to take first place overall. Special thanks to Karen Marsh and Amy Hughes who both covered seven events, and Emma McClatchey 6 events. Karen covering the 100m, 200m, 100mH, 400mH, Long Jump, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay. Amy Hughes the 100mH, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt, Discus and the 4 x 100m relay. Emma the Triple Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Hammer, Discus and javelin.

Rachel Mcgoldrick ran the 3000m. in a personal best time of 11 min.35.7 secs. she also ran the 200m. and the 400m. relay along with sister Maria who also ran the 400m and 800m.

Gemma Connolly came 1st in the 3000m with a time of 10 min.38.1 secs and second in the 1500m.

Maddie Williams ran a great 1500m in 5 min.29.2 secs for second place in the B team and also covered the 100m. and 4 x 100m. relay. Newcomer to the senior team, Jess Leonard won the 400m for the B team in a time of 61.5 secs. and ran in both relays. Catherine Spark threw the javelin 16.98m for second place in the B team.

For the men, Phil Robinson had a busy day again covering the Pole Vault, Triple Jump, High Jump, 110mH, 400mH, javelin and stepped in to help the 4 x 100m. relay team.

Michael Causer came back from injury to win the Long Jump, George Asson had a great day by running the 100m in a time of 11.2 secs which is the qualifying standard for the English Schools, ran the 200m in 23.3secs. and the 4 x 100m relay.

Lachlain Fisher ran the 200m, 400m and the 4 x 100m relay, Jonathan Causer the 400m., 800m. and 4 x 100m. relay. Tom Griffiths won the 1500m in 4 min.14.6 secs then ran 16 min.48.7 secs in the 5000m for second place, Calum Lockett got first B place in the 1500m. (4 min.22.5 secs.) and Luke Towers first B place in the 5000m. (17 min.16.6 secs.).

Ian Costello stepped in to run the 4 x 400m relay with Tom, Calum and Luke.

Mike Hughes threw the Hammer (2nd, 31.62m.) and Shot putt, Stephen Winn the discus and Shot putt and Nathan Orr the discus and javelin.

Two of the club’s veterans ran in the Dunham Park 5km race in Cheshire. Julia Eccleston (W40) running 23 min.30 secs and Stan Erlam (M70) 26 min.16 secs.
