RAINFORD enjoyed a successful weekend returning to the top of Med Imaging Liverpool Competition Division 1 after the win at Wigan and achieving cup success on Sunday against Formby.

A low scoring encounter at Bull Hey, Wigan saw Rainford struggling throughout their innings with only Paul Farrar (24) and Ravi Mistry (18) making any impact as they were bowled out for 122.

Rainford came back strong in the second half to reduce the hosts to 39 for 5 before bowling them out for 89.

Olly Jump (3 for 26) did some early damage and Daron Cruickshank, in his first appearance since arrival from Trinidad and Tobago, took no time to settle in with a match winning 7 for 32.

On Sunday in the Ray Digman Trophy Rainford hosted Formby and after asking the visitors to bat Stephen Birkett (3 for 25) and Daron Cruickshank (for 14) had reduced them to 7 for 4.

Elliott Ketteringham hit an excellent 72 not out to lift Formby’s total to 140 all out.

In reply Rainford also struggled early on reaching 27 for 3 before Joe Noctor produced a commanding innings (56 not out) to steer Rainford home by four wickets.

Rainhill climbed to 5th in the Med Imaging Liverpool Competition Premier league after beating Leigh by 3 wickets. Thanks to the bowling of Qureshi and the batting of Khan.

Meanwhile St Helens Town remain top of the Liverpool and District second division with a nervy one wicket win at Burscough.

Town found themselves 110-9, needing eight runs for victory. Payne and Murgatoryd saw the game home with the latter hitting the winning 2 runs over the top of the infield.
