CRUSADERS got back to winning ways in Round 8 of the Kingstone Press Cider National Conference Premier League.

Both sides were evenly matched for the opening quarter but it was the visitors who were first to score when Ross Kemp took an easy two points offered from a penalty goal.

This rallied Thatto who ran in three tries in the next 10 minutes. Dave Hull showed good pace down the outside edge to put Jordan Houghton through.

Two minutes later and Jack Jones read the attacking play well as he intercepted to run in Heath’s second which he then converted to make it 10-2.

Skirlaugh still showing pace replied on the half-hour as Ross Kemp scored and converted for the visitors to bring them within 2 points.

With five minutes to go before the break Jack Jones dummied to put Alex Holland over in the corner for his debut try.

And in the last play of the first half Darren Woods scored and left Jack Jones to convert and a half-time score of 20-8 to Thatto.

The second half was a much more controlled display by both teams.

Alex McClurg was a welcome return for the home side as he touched down under the sticks and Jones added the extras.

Skirlaugh scored a converted try right on the final whistle but Heath’s display leading up to the break meant the visitors were always chasing the game in the second half and Heath defended well to take the two points.

Hattons Solicitors Man of the Match went to Dave Sutton while Jack Jones took the spectators award.
