RECS responded to their previous outings poor defensive show, underlining their promotion credentials by keeping promotion rivals Ovenden scoreless.

Recs started brightly and were quickly off the mark after John Rees latched on to a Ryan Liptrot pass from dummy half, to score a short range try. Danny Lynch converted.

Returning full back, Ryan Hilliard, looked to have extended the lead shortly after, but a last ditch cover tackle dislodged the ball from his grasp as he dived over the try line.

With the wet conditions restricting the game to a forwards battle, Lynch opted to keep the score moving when he slotted a penalty goal just before the break to give a half-time lead of 8-0.

Ryan Liptrot scored a try within minutes of the restart, spotting a gap between the marker defence, to score besides the posts. Lynch converted.

Skipper, Mark Ashton took the game away from Ovenden, scoring his first try since his return from injury.

That openied up an 18 point advantage.

Ovenden did not give up, but Recs thunderous defence and desire to hold out the visitors meant that they held a team to nil for the second time this season.

The Amdec Man of the Match award went to Danny Lynch.
