St Helens Town 1st XI won their second league game in a row beating Alder cc by 133 runs thanks to 151 not out from Town captain Craig Woods.

Having lost the toss and been put in to bat on what looked a good pitch to bat on Town found themselves 33-2 after a good opening spell from the Alder bowlers.

Batting at number four Woods joined opener David Gaskell at the crease and the pair set about building a big partnership of 122 for the 3rd wicket, Gaskell eventually fell for a very well made 57 with the score 155-3 and Woods going well on 73.

He was joined by James Davies and they put on 83 together.

Woods reached his century in style with a boundary and continued to dispatch the bowling to all parts eventually reaching his 151 not out score in 119 balls scoring 26 fours and 1 six.

Town declared on 263-5 off 46.2 overs. With a mini spell of 5 overs before tea Town reduced Alder to 13-1, James Davies taking the wicket.

After tea Town continued to take wickets at regular intervals after an excellent spell of fast bowling from Joe Payne who finished with figures of 3-23 from 8 overs.

James Davies, Paul Meadows and Tony Filson all chipped in with 2 wickets apiece and Alder where eventually bowled out for 130 from 45.1 overs and St Helens Town took the maximum of 25 points to maintain their promising start to the season.

The 2nd XI where also in action at home to Northop Hall and they also won their second league game in a row winning by 60 runs, Town batted first and made 202-8 declared thanks to 38 from Andrew Critchley and 80 from Ian Huyton.

Northop Hall set about their chase and found themselves 83-5 before eventually being all out for 142, Dave Platt snr the pick of the bowlers with 5-20 and his son captain Dave Platt jnr picking up 3-27 to maintain their winning start to the league campaign.
