TOWN’S opening league matches got off to a double victory, with both first and second teams winning.
With the first XI playing at Ruskin Drive after a year’s absence, against Prestatayn, new first XI captain Craig Woods, won the toss elected to bowl.
With seamers Murgatroyd (2-42) and debutant Joe Payne, bowling tight the visitors were soon in trouble.
With a very strong bowling line up, Woods switched his attack regularly, the Welshmen slumped to 130 for 9.
But a good late 50 from Harris saw them reach 183 al out, Stark mopping up the tail with 3-33.
In reply Town got off to a flier,with openers, I. Knowles and D. Gaskell, putting on 74 for the first wicket with Knowles caught on 39.
At 102 for 2, Craig Woods joined Gaskell, who got a fine 50.
Woods joined by D. Roberts then added a quick 58, with four runs needed for victory Woods attempted a reverse sweep of Prestatayn’s quick bowler, but was given out LBW, for 46. Roberts hit the winning four runs, to seal a 20 point victory.
Town’s second XI, won away to Fleetwood Hesketh, with veteran Dave Gregson taking 6- 25, Hesketh struggled to 75 all out.
Town lost quick wickets, and needed the experienced, Ian Huyton and young Ryan Donnelly h scoring 26 apiece, to take them to a 20 point victory.
