Broughton Park 69 Liverpool St Helens 10

LIVERPOOL St Helens succumbed to a heavy defeat at Broughton Park, a result which all but sees them relegated from North One West.

With one game remaining they sit two points behind Carlisle and safety. LSH host third-placed Widnes on Saturday, while Carlisle are at home to bottom club, and already relegated, Altrincham Kersal.

An LSH win over Widnes coupled with an Altrincham win at Carlisle would see LSH safe; any other combination would send the Moss Laners down.

On Saturday at Hough End, despite a strong performance from the pack where they not only held their own but frequently panicked the home side into conceding 13 penalties, LSH were eventually overrun by the Broughton Park backs.

The pattern of the game was set from the off when LSH attacked the Park line for the opening 10 minutes, all to no avail.

When the hosts did get their hands on the ball in the 12th minute, speedy winger Adi Titiloye simply sprinted, kicked on, chased and scored a try from over 70 metres out.

This manoeuvre, with some slight variations was to be repeated nine more times throughout the afternoon with Titiloye scoring two more.

LSH, 29-0 down after 30 minutes, showed what they were capable of with a fine try from Jake Hodson, finishing off a good move among the backs.

LSH’s second score came immediately after half time when a long pass from Neil Hull was pouched by Matt Cunliffe to score in the right hand corner.

LSH could not be faulted for effort but, as on recent occasions, the task was beyond them. To the delight of the home crowd the Park scoring was completed by prop Donald George, plunging over from half a metre between the posts.

This week LSH host Widnes at Moss Lane, 3pm.
