Clive Griffiths not taking Pilkington Recs lightly in the Challenge Cup

St Helens Star: Clive Griffiths not taking Pilkington Recs lightly in the Challenge Cup Clive Griffiths not taking Pilkington Recs lightly in the Challenge Cup

"Danger approaches far quicker if you under-estimate", according to North Wales Crusaders head coach Clive Griffiths.

And he certainly won't be taking anything for granted when his Crusaders side take on Pilkington Recs in the third round of the Tetley's Challenge Cup on Sunday.

Griffiths said: "I know that they will be coming in to the game quietly confident. I will not be taking them lightly.

"They've got some really good lads who have all come through the ranks at academy level.

"It's 13 against 13 - that's the way I look at it. You can't take anything for granted otherwise it could come back to bite you.

"I know what they're like as a club and the philosophies that they have in place. They'll come here looking to give us a good game and they certainly won't roll over."

Griffiths is looking forward to welcoming some familiar faces from Recs to the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium.

He said: "It’s going to be a bit nostalgic for us all as a family; we’ve all spent many a years watching the teams and players progressing at the club.

“I’ve coached there and my sons, Owain and Rhys, have played there so we know the club and all its coaches and admin staff there really well.

“It’s a bit of a shame that they’ve left their old ground, City Road, as it was a great home for them that was full of history and memories.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been drawn against them in the cup and that we can welcome them over the Racecourse."

Crusaders could have Toby Adamson, Gary Middlehurst, Dan Birkett and Jono Smith missing after they all picked up knocks in the win over Swinton Lions.

However, Griffiths could be boosted by the return of the likes of Rob Massam, Christiaan Roets and Andy Moulsdale, although they will all be monitored ahead of the game.
