THE National Cup second round match took place in atrocious conditions.

Haydock took a sixth minute lead when Carl Cheetham put a kick through for centre Josh Jackson to chase and touch down.

The Yickers doubled that lead when they moved the ball well along the line and good work from Ste Jones sent Jackson in for his second try after 14 minutes.

A kick through from Ste Jones from his own half, chased by Dean Dollin who did well to keep the ball in play with a further kick downfield, resulted in Jackson going in for his thirs try.

Karl Dingsdale convered to make it 14 - 0 at half time It was a game of two halves, and the second half weather seemed to be worse then the first with the wind blowing strong and rain and hailstones in the Yickers faces.

Considering the terrible weather both teams must take credit, for playing some attractive rugby. The question was did Haydock score enough points to win?

The Yorkshire team hit back with an early try.

It was all Queensbury and Haydock could not get out of their own half.

And on 54 minutes good passing again saw them grab their second try to make it 14-10.

Haydock only ventured into the attacking half of the field an a few occasions, and giving penalties away did not help their cause. And it was from one penalty the Yorkshiremen levelled the scores in when Queensbury’s centre went in for his third try to make it 14-14 after 61mins.

Danny Gee, who who was having a powerful game, ran himself to a standstill.

Haydock got quite a few injuries when several players had to leave the field of play through injury.

With 10 minutes to go Queensbury were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which they duly goaled to give them a 16 - 14 lead.

Haydock tried and tried but their efforts and conditions prevented it.

Haydock just did not score enough points in the first half, but credit to both teams for a thrilling match in awful conditions.

The Lymewood Man of Match went to Danny Gee, with good displays from Dean Dollin, Jordan Gibson, Josh Jackson and Ste Jones.
