WEST Park Ladies under 15s and 18s are going well with their combination with Vale of Lune being harmonious and productive.

The squad of young ladies are a formidable side, playing fixtures in the Midlands, Yorkshire and proving to be an entertaining side to watch.

The teams have featured in the finals of the national sevens in Lichfield twice, between the two clubs of West Park and Vale of Lune, they have won the Northern Girls League three times. With new players attending training, to join in with a well established foundation of players, the club look forward to successful seasons ahead.

The West Park philosophy of good handling, support play and strong defence has seen the two age group sides compete with the best teams in the country.

This is demonstrated in the selections for Lancashire and the North of England, where West Park and Vale of Lune feature heavily, in the numbers of their players selected.

Coach Shaun Woosey is the major driving force behind the set-up. He said: “Girls rugby Union is one of the fastest growing world sports, the 7s version will be in the next Olympics.

“The girls of West Park toured the South of France, played a touring side from Canada and hopefully in April this year entertain a team from Los Angeles.

The girls and their colleagues are without doubt one of the premier sides in England.

“North Champions at U18 and U15 for the past three years, providers of virtually the whole of the Lancashire Team, a large part of the North of England Team and runners up two years running in the National 7s.

“Park ladies have beaten every team they have played from Hadrians Wall in the North to Toulon in the South.”
