Luke Walsh, Sia Soliola, Adam Swift and LMS all return for Wigan clash

St Helens Star: Sia Soliola Sia Soliola

COACH Nathan Brown has confirmed that everyone came through last week’s game against Batley unscathed and that squad will be joined by fit-again Adam Swift, Luke Walsh, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Sia Soliola passed fit and available to play.

New props Richard Beaumont and Mose Masoe are the only first teamers not fit and are not expected to feature until the early part of the season.

But nevertheless Brown will have a tough job trimming his squad down as he seeks to establish his 17 for the Super League opener against Warrington on February 13.

Friday’s clash against the double winners will be Saints’ last hit-out ahead of that – and there will be plenty of jockeying for shirts, particularly in the pack where they have an abundance of riches in the front and back row.

Brown said: “It should be a fair bit more rammed up than the game against Batley. I spoke to Shaun Wane and he said his team is going to give its best tilt, especially in the first half. Both sides will be looking to play squads of 20/21.

“We will expect a reasonably tense game because Wigan have a comp game the week after against Huddersfield and then the World Championship coming up. For us it is our only strong hit out before we face off against Warrington.”

Brown expects the new-look Warriors to provide tough opposition – but that is just what he wants.

And he hoped that the fans would turn out in their droves to pay tribute to the beneficiary Roby.

“It would be good for the fans to turn out for Robes.

“He re-signed for the club for another four years and that gives the club a good foundation when you have a player that is on contract for that length of time.

“It also gives the club the opportunity to build a roster around certain individuals.

“For Robes to stay here despite the attraction of the NRL dollars is brilliant. Robes has played his part in plenty of trophy winning teams in the past and the next four or five seasons, with the squad that is being put in place, I am sure he is going to help the club to more success. It would be good for the fans to turn up to support him.”
