As Liverpool St Helens enjoy a break from North One West action over the Christmas and New Year period, it is also some respite for one of the busiest people at Moss Lane this season, Kay Williams, the 1st XV Physiotherapist.

The Moss Laners have experienced a larger than usual number of injuries and ailments this season, in contrast to the last couple of years when perhaps it is no coincidence that they have managed to reach the divisional play-offs.

Kay, born in Liverpool and currently working in the Orthopaedic and Trauma Unit at Whiston Hospital, is now in her second full year with LSH.

Having previously worked as a Sports Injury Therapist in the South East, Kay is back on home territory balancing her time at Moss Lane with the pursuit of a Post Graduate Degree in Physiotherapy at Liverpool University.

Her input at LSH has been crucial providing pitch-side first aid, post and pre match treatments and the growing amount of pre match strapping required in the modern game. Kay said “I am really enjoying being part of the set up at LSH and try to help wherever I can”.

Kay’s expertise in the sporting arena has been further recognised by her appointment as a volunteer with the 2014 Commonwealth Games Medical Team as a First Contact Physiotherapist.

The games begin in late July in Glasgow and Kay is delighted with her inclusion. “I am looking forward to the whole experience and learning massively from it as well” she said.

LSH President Ray French commented “Kay is a key member of our team. The work she does for us is invaluable and we are all delighted for her to be recognised this way”.
