It may not Cricket weather just at the moment but the Christmas and New Year period signals the start of Rainford Cricket Club’s preparations for the 2014 season.

The senior sides begin their indoor practice at St Bede’s Cricket Centre in Ormskirk on 11 January whilst the club’s youngsters (boys and girls from under 7 to 13) make use of the facilities at Rainford High Technology College on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, beginning on 8 January.

Andy Davies is to skipper Rainford for a second year after being re-elected at the club’s recent Annual General Meeting. Davies (24) is now in his fourth season at the Jubilee Recreation Ground Club and is delighted at the prospect. “I am very happy to continue,” he said.

“After dropping out of the Liverpool Competition Premier Division we had a poor start in Division 1 in 2013 but rallied to finish 6th. We are a young side and everyone has learnt a lot from last years’ experience and I’m very hopeful for a much better performance this season”.

Andrew Harrison continues as 2nd X1 skipper after leading his team to promotion to the 2nd X1 Division 1 with the 3rd X1 captain still to be appointed.

Trinidad and Tobago all-rounder Daron Cruickshank is to return to Rainford in 2014. Cruickshank, the second highest run scorer in Liverpool Competition Division 1 last year, is currently playing with the Queens Park Club in Trinidad.
