Twelve of St Helens Sutton A.C.’s veteran runners took part in the Cross Challenge Cross-country event in Liverpool’s Sefton Park which was in good condition after the recent dry spell.

With runners from as far afield as the South and East coasts, South Wales, the North East and even Scotland, it was not surprising that, despite running up to form, the team all had high placings.

First home for the club in 231st place was John Greenall who had run the 9.8km. course in 37 min.37 secs with Ian Hayburn 11 places behind in 38 min.2 secs.

Andrew Wilson also dipped under 40 minutes recording 39 min.21 secs. while Chris Levy, Maurice Collins and Andy O’Connor failed in that by 9, 40 and 48 secs respectively.

Mark Liptrot, 42 min.31 secs, Ian Roberts, 42 min.50 secs, and Greg Carns, 43 min.10 secs., all finished in the first 400 places.

The turn out was completed by Peter Johnson, 44 min.22 secs, Alan McNally, 45 min.43 secs. and Sony Monaghan who was the only lady in the field running in this race rather than the 1.7km shorter senior ladies race, and completed the course in 48 min.46 secs..
