Widnes St Maries 32 Clock Face Miners 6
11:30pm Sunday 22nd September 2013 in Sport
Premier Division Champions Widnes St Maries proved too strong for fourth placed Clock Face as they knocked them out of the play offs.
After some early chances by both teams it was Maries who scored first when a low kick to the corner was gathered by winger Conroy to touch down and score.
Minutes later and they were over again as they broke up field with the ball going across to centre French to finish off behind the posts with Yeats adding on the extras.
Clock continued to press the Maries line with Riley, Kinsey, and Crehan all going close but unable to cross the line then a loose pass deep in the Maries half was picked up by French who raced away on a 70 metre run to the Clock line to score his second of the day with Yeats again converting.
From the restart Clock got a bit of luck when the ball was touched by a defender before it went into touch and from the scrum the ball came out and went across to Sam Long who’s pass to winger Craig Cooney saw him slid over in the corner with Martin Hutton landing the touchline conversion to make it 16-6 at the break with Clock back in the game.
It did not take to long after the restart that Maries increased their lead when Yeats broke out of a tackle to race away and score under the posts then convert his try.
He quickly followed this up with another try going over in the corner and putting Clock right out of the game.
With the game all but over and on their last attack Maries Chris Lunt managed to break free from a tackle then beat the defence to the line for the final try which Dave Prescott then converted to round off the scoring and put them into the final.
The Saints Taxis man of the Match was Adam McGowan with Chris Kinsey taking the Roscoe Tyres players award.
