Saints trail Wolves 22-10 at half time
9:01pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport
SAINTS are trailing Warrington 22-10 at half time – but it could have been much worse.
They were slow out of the blocks, handing Wolves the initiative – and they did not need asking twice.
A Lee Briers kick wide on three minutes was collected by wing Joel Monaghan, who did the rest.
And then following a bustling run up te middle from Ben Harrison, Wolves were soon in again when the ball was spun left for Rhys Evans to cross.
Stefan Ratchford’s goal made it 10-0 and Saints could not get a foothold – and seemingly were too quickly playing catch-up.
A disputed third Warrington try came when old boy Mick Higham scooped the ball off Jonny Lomax behind the line to touch down.
Trent Waterhouse touched down another grubber and at 22-0 a rout looked on the cards.
But Saints managed to get a bit more composure in their game.
And that paid off on 29 minutes when Hohaia, Wilkin and Wellens combined to send Turner over.
And then five minutes before the break fine play on the left saw Soliola, Lomax and Meli combine to send Swift in at the corner.
Lomax missed the goal, but at least Saints have some hope going into the second half – but they need to score first, and early.
