Thrilling game despite no goals
4:25pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport
BILLINGE made it two draws in two home games as their Cheshire League encounter with Whaley Bridge ended in a 0-0 draw.
However any thoughts that this was a no-score bore draw can be quickly dismissed as it was all-action and kept the good-sized crowd entertained from the first to last minute.
Whaley Bridge were first out of the blocks - but after two close shaves Billinge were the better team from the 20 minute mark.
With centre-back Nathan Ogden playing his first game of the season this meant that captain Gareth Fletcher could move to centre-midfield as The Storks changed their formation from earlier games and looked a more solid unit.
With Graham Green and Bobby Jones leading the line and Jamie Harrison having his best game of the season on the left Billinge looked dangerous every time they attacked.
Billinge manager Paul Oakes said: “It was a bit scrappy to start with but as the game went on we found a bit of quality.
“With a bit more luck we could have won it but Whaley Bridge are a strong outfit and will be up there at the end of the season so we can’t be too despondent.”
Billinge’s next home game is on Saturday, 7 September against Rylands when they will be launching their new kit and programme.
