Brown: We let ourselves down in some areas
NATHAN Brown was pleased to leave Belle Vue with a win and a return to fifth spot but felt the manner of the victory against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats could have been different.
He felt Saints laid a strong platform by going 10-0 ahead inside nine minutes but would have liked for his men to have made more of the advantage at that stage.
"We put ourselves in a good position early and then made a lot of errors that were poor attention to detail I thought," said Saints' head coach.
"We never seemed to get flowing and Wakefield were probably a little bit similar at times.
"Wakefield are a very interesting side, well coached and they're very dangerous. There are other sides in the top eight who in my opinion don't attack as dangerously.
"So to keep them to 12 means there was obviously some good stuff that we did. I thought our defence stood up but I just thought we let ourselves down in some small parts of the game and we need to be a lot better going forward."
But he does feel his team is going in the right direction, staying fifth on the ladder at the end of round 25 and could yet go into the play-offs from anywhere between fourth and eighth.
"We've won five in a row and our last loss came when we played in the wet and didn't play very good in the conditions," he said.
"We're obviously doing some things good and a lot of the players are getting consistently better.
"There's a lot of things to be happy about but there's also some things that stood out that we need to do a lot better.
"Going into the play-offs winning and playing well is a good way to go into them."
