Chorley Panthers 18 Bold Miners 24
2:03pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in Sport
BOLD Miners’ mid-season North West Men’s Division One run of form continued with a third consecutive win coming at Chorley Panthers on Saturday.
Ian Webster, Kelvin Walkden, Carl Anders and Dave Quigley all scored after the hosts had taken an early lead.
It was Panthers’ sizeable pack who dominated the first 10 minutes as they opened up a 12-point difference, thanks also to Miners’ poor finishing.
The visitors finally hit back through Webster as the full back went over from close range after Anders combined with Adam Welsby.
With Paul Johnson and Ant Parr starting to find form Bold began to overcome a tiring Chorley pack which allowed Gaz Molyneux and Anders to give Walkden space to squeeze over and level the score.
Big drives from Andy Murray and Brad Thompson made further inroads into the Panthers defence before Johnson and Welsby teed up Anders to jinx his way to a converted try.
Miners extended their lead to 12 points when Webster broke clear down the left flank and offloaded for winger Quigley to sprint home, meaning Chorley’s late converted try proved only a consolation.
Bold host Latchford Albion – who sit one league spot below them – on Thursday, 7pm.
