Nathan Brown pleased to get home win monkey off their backs

Alex Walmsley's first Super League try Alex Walmsley's first Super League try

SAINTS boss Nathan Brown put Friday nights first home win of the Super League campaign down to upping their game when it mattered most.

And he said he was delighted to get the Langtree Park monkey off their backs with the half century mauling of the Wildcats.

Brown said: “When we thought it would be an easy night, I thought we started to think to do ok would be enough, but when it really mattered we did well.

“Just after half time they had 34 tackles on our try line and held them out and then they scored. We stepped up after that which was good as we lost a few blokes through injury.

“We had a number of young blokes out there together on the field and they did well. That was pleasing.”

At last the home fans, who had not had a great deal to cheer, left the ground with a smile on their faces after seeing some great football.

Brown added: "I was happy for the fans that we got that win at home, it was good.

“I wasn't worried about it though when things weren't looking so good earlier in the season. Yes, I would have liked to have beaten Huddersfield and Leeds but we've had to make some adjustments to how we have played.

"Doing that in the run of a season takes a little time but I knew the guys would adapt and they are doing.

“There is still lots of improvement in us too."
