Thatto Heath’s St-Helens Girls season kicks off with a tough game

The girls section played host to Ashton in their first game of the season on Sunday, after what has seemed like a eternity of a close season, stretching back to August.

The St-Helens Girls came out worthy winners, but where made to work hard for their victory against Ashton, who were tough in their defence, and strong in their attack, resulting in a brave defensive effort defending the line on a number of occasions.

The tries scored by the St-Helens Girls all had to be worked for, with great passing and support moves, and some great individual play – spotting and making use of gaps created, there were no walk overs. The Girls section coaching staff where pleased with the girls, as much of their training ethic and what they have learned in training was put and used in the game.

A big well done to Lauren Hiscock and Nicole McMenamy, who played their first 13 a side game in the forwards, both taking in some great drives and getting stuck into the defensive effort.

Also Alex Barrow, and Rhianna Scott, who both played out of their normal positions from last season, both putting in a strong defensive game, and both very unlucky not to have written their names on the try scoring lists. A great team effort from the Girls Section who along with Ashton shown what Girls Rugby League is all about.

Well done also to two of our girls Shannon Smith, and Chloe Hammond who played along side last season’s team mates Widnes Viking Girls in a u16’s game against St-Judes. Last season’s combined team continued the previous season’s great form to strike up a victory against Wigan St-Judes.
