Bowdon 1st XV 12pts v West Park 1st XV 31pts.

An excellent all round display by the visitors emphasised the difference in class shown by their respective league positions , resulting in another maximum five league points for West Park Good forward domination , particularly in the first half, provided the visitors back division with a regular supply of possession which was used to full advantage yielding a total of five tries.

Full back Dan Green was first to register a score when he charged down an attempted Bowden clearance to gather and cross for a good try which Warren Hunt converted. A successful penalty kick by the home side briefly closed the gap , but a break in open play from skipper Rob Morley found Ste Arrowsmith in support, he expertly sidestepped the Bowden full back and passed back to Morley following up to complete a fine try which once again Hunt converted.

The home side were successful with another penalty kick, but the visitors were still very much in control of the game, completing the first half with an excellent try from a flowing movement across the backs involving Arrowsmith and centre Warburton who supplied fellow centre John James with a well timed pass to score wide out, Hunt was unable to convert on this occasion , leaving the visitors with a comfortable half time lead of 19 pts to 6 pts.

The second half proved initially to be something of an anti-climax, as both sides showing a lack of cohesion, and scrappy play only provided further scores from two penalty kicks by the home side.

West Park however soon realised that a 7pt margin was not a true testimony of their superiority, and hit back with their fourth and perhaps best try as John James came into the line at speed finding Matty Appleton in support who rounded the opposition to score a superb try under the posts which Hunt converted.

The visitors were buoyed by this score and added another as Liam Hill’s field kick was gathered by Arrowsmith who neatly beat the Bowden full back, fed full back Green who found prop McGarvey in support and his fine pass to centre Warburton allowed fellow centre John James to score wide out, a try which went unconverted.

Next week West Park hoping to add to their points tally travel to Winnington Park with a 3pm kick off.
