Mousley’s pep-talk helps stave off Ruskin humiliation

ON face value a 43-0 defeat appears to be a drumming from Ruskin Park but it is an accurate representation of the differences in this league. Broughton Park being a feeder club to Premiership Sale Sharks.

In truth this was an excellent performance from Ruskin Park led by the strength and power of Stu Liversley and some great defensive play by the backs with a couple of moments of skill by Karl Jones.

Ruskin defended and attacked with great courage and the score line remained 0- 0 until veteran Jonny Howden was sin-binned for a technical offence in the red zone. This enabled Broughton to break the Ruskin resolve and score two tries before half time.

Ten minutes into the second half saw the superiority of the Broughton set up pay off and they started to take control with some magnificent tries scored from fast flowing exciting rugby. Ruskin faced a humiliation.

At this point Ruskin Park stood strong and set out the plan for the next few weeks, excellent words of wisdom from Ben Mousley bonded the team even stronger and the last 10 minutes were controlled by Ruskin Park who broke the Broughton defensive line on several occasions.

No points were conceded in the last ten minutes and Ruskin looked the more likely to score points.

So in all a large defeat, but a performance that again showed how far Ruskin 1st xv have progressed this year.

Two home games in the next three weeks are must wins for Ruskin who are a step away from getting clear of the relegation fight.
