The home side consolidated their 3rd place league position with a maximum points win over their 5th place opposition.

The result was largely due to an excellent opening half hour when Park scored three good tries, converting two, and containing the opposition to a penalty goal, to give a half time lead of 19pts to 3pts.

Fly half Rosney set up the first try within 10 mins of the start of he game, his fine break finding centre John James in support, and his pass set up flanker Dyson to open the scoring.

The forwards were playing their part too, and from a penalty against Hoylake at the ruck, skipper Rob Morley took a quick tap and dived over on the blind side to score, both tries being excellently converted by winger Warren Hunt.

From the kick off after Morley’s try the ball was fielded by hooker Sterry, quick hands across the back line saw centre Warburton break the defence, and Dyson in support fed winger Hunt to cross for another try, although he was unable to convert on this occasion.

Firmly in the driving seat West Park looked to add to their three tries in the second half and obtain a bonus point, but were denied possession by a resurgent Hoylake team ,who would have made it a much closer contest if their back line had not been so wasteful.

Their forwards were very much in control and held the majority of possession in the second half, aided by some unnecessary kicking away of possession by Park and an apparent inability too often to find touch.

Frustration showed as the home side gave away a number of penalties for indiscipline at the breakdown, and centre Young was able to convert two more to bring the visitors within 10 points of the home side’s lead.

It looked as though Park’s 4th try and bonus point was not going to come, but another piece of quick thinking by skipper Morley saw his quick tap passed with speed and precision across the backs to find Savage linking up to cross in the corner to score and put make the result safe West Park have no game next week and were unable to re-arrange fixtures that had previously been postponed .

The following week the 1st team travel to Bowden.

Glossop 2nd XV 19 West Park 2nd XV 22.

Fielding a side containing a large number of their Colts team , Park nonetheless were to strong for their opposition, although leaving it late to secure a most creditable win, and match the 1st XV victory at Glossop last week.

Next week the 2nd XV travel to Anselmians.

West Park 3rd XV 15 Birkenhead Park 3rd XV 22.

A shortage of front row forwards necessitated uncontested scrums from the outset in this evenly contested game, one which the home were unlucky to lose.
